Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Assistant Professor in Restorative Dental Sciences (Prosthodontics) in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 499576), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract.
The HKU Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate dental education, which is internationally renowned. The Faculty’s strategic research themes are Biomedical Engineering and Biofunctional Materials, Oral Microbiome and Health Initiative, Population Oral Health, and Smart Health Technology and Potentially Malignant Oral Disease. The high quality of the Faculty’s teaching and learning, clinical services and research excellence have won global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s World Number One Ranking by the QS World University Ranking by Subject in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018. The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange activities as well as in dental and oral health research, and promotions in international, regional and local communities.
The Faculty is seeking an academic clinician with a strong interest in contemporary clinical dentistry, teaching and learning and a passion for research. Applicants should have demonstrated a high level of expertise in the development of teaching and learning related to contemporary philosophies and advanced practice in Prosthodontics. Those with a demonstrated research track record in Prosthodontics is highly desirable. Applicants with a clinical background and expertise related to care of the elderly would be highly advantageous.
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Dentistry, and a Master of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent in Prosthodontics. They should also have (i) ability in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and clinical practice; (ii) potential for and interest in research; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs; and (iv) experience in knowledge exchange (KE) activities.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing subsidy will also be provided as applicable.
