    Department Chair and Associate/Full Professor

(Clinical or Tenure Track) in Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry

The University of Michigan School of Dentistry invites qualified applications for the Chair position in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry.  The salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and credentials.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a full-time associate or full professor on the clinical or tenure track to lead a vibrant and well-established department. The Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry programs at the University of Michigan have long maintained strong leadership roles, advancing research and academic direction in their respective fields.

The department offers graduate residency programs in Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, has an endowed, one-year fellowship in Craniofacial Special Care Orthodontics, and is responsible for teaching orthodontics and pediatric dentistry in the DDS curriculum. The graduate program in Orthodontics, established in 1923, is the oldest degree granting Orthodontics program in the world and is renowned for excellence in the specialty. The Pediatric Dentistry graduate program is also an internationally recognized program with strong hospital-based components and state-of-the-art facilities in both the School of Dentistry and University Hospitals. The program is affiliated with the University of Michigan Hospital, Mott Children’s Health Center, and Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan.  Both programs offer Masters degrees within the Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan.

The department's research themes encompass clinical, translational, and basic science studies in craniofacial developmental and skeletal biology, genetics, tissue engineering, and treatment outcomes.  In addition, numerous opportunities are available for collaboration within the Dental School and the greater University of Michigan community.

The responsibilities of the Chair include accomplishing the priorities set by the school on the basis of our strategic plan. The Department Chair has responsibility for the overall administration and leadership of the academic department, including planning and goal setting, financial stewardship, faculty development, oversight of graduate and DDS educational programs, and support of school and university service missions.

The successful candidate will possess a DDS/DMD and/or PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree). Top candidates will have a national reputation as a scholar with outstanding and innovative research accomplishments, as well as knowledge of key aspects of education in modern academic dentistry.
