    Position Summary


    The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine (SDM) invites qualified applications for early to senior oral health research dentist scientists and/or scientists for full-time tenure-track academic faculty positions in the Department of Oral Biology. The SDM is a leading oral health research institution and home to the nations first academic department focused on oral health research. Now in its seventh decade, our PhD training program has yielded an impressive cohort of accomplished scholars who have made numerous important contributions to oral health research. We seek a multiple clinical scientists or scientists who will propel the vision of the Department of Oral Biology and continue to expand the strong existing team that will advance the mission of the department and school.

    The Department of Oral Biology seeks to build on core strengths areas of research including oral microbiology/immunology, mineralized tissue, salivary gland, and oral cancer/cancer complications.

    Faculty responsibilities for the department involve:



      • Predoctoral and postdoctoral education

      • Service activities

      • Research



    As the flagship research department for research within the SDM, the preferred candidate will possess an emerging or established national/international prominence in oral/craniofacial disease research arena with a new or established track record of extramural funding. UB, a Carnegie R1 research university, has a strong record of research funding, totaling $428 million in annual research spending in FY23. The SDM has consistently ranked among the top tier in NIH/NIDCR funding. The School of Dental Medicine offers an outstanding work environment and enjoys a strong tradition of collaborative research with several schools and colleges at the University at Buffalo and closely located Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must meet one of the following degree requirements:


    • DMD/DDS or equivalent

    • MD

    • PhD



    Preferred Qualifications


    Record of significant extramural research funding to study oral/craniofacial diseases from US Federal agencies.
