  • Research Technician - School of Dental Medicine

    Tufts University

    The TUSDM Dry Eye and Dry Mouth Research Laboratory is dedicated to conducting ethical, meaningful research in cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in dry mouth and dry eye syndromes. Our research efforts are directed towards meeting the needs of the scientific and dental community.

    Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician will conduct a variety of routine experiments by following established procedures and protocols including: performing assays, tissue culture, electrophoresis and other laboratory techniques. The tools and methods routinely employed in the lab include western blotting, RT-PCR, transgenic animal models, animal surgery and experimental pathology, histomorphometry, immunohistochemistry, cell and tissue culture and signal transduction pathways. Other research duties may include recording test results and analyzing data using basic statistics and monitoring animal colonies. Monitor laboratory operations by ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, managing lab space and cleanliness and following laboratory safety protocols. Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:
    Bachelor’s or M.S. degree in science.
    Previous laboratory experience is a plus.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and procedures.
    Knowledge of dental equipment and terminology preferred.
    The person in this position must manage their time well and be very organized.
    He or she should possess the ability and confidence to work independently, under the supervision of the PI.
    Good interpersonal and communication skills are important as the position interacts with many types of employees within the laboratory and beyond.
    Must have basic computer skills – spreadsheets and word documents.
