Position Summary

The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine (SDM) invites applications from qualified early- to mid-career oral health scientists and/or clinician-scientists for a full-time tenure track academic faculty position in the Department of Oral Biology. The SDM is a leading oral health research institution and home to the nations first academic department focused on oral health research.

As Oral Biology is the flagship research department within the SDM, the preferred candidate will demonstrate emerging or established national and/or international prominence in oral/craniofacial research, with work that also has relevance to systemic health and disease. Preference will be given to candidates with a new or sustained record of extramural funding.

Now in its seventh decade, our PhD training program has produced a distinguished cohort of scholars who have made significant contributions to oral health research. The Department of Oral Biology is recognized for its strengths in a range of areas including microbiology, immunology, mineralized tissues, salivary gland biology, glycobiology, and oral cancer. We seek a scientist or clinician-scientist whose expertise will complement and enhance the departments existing strengths, and who will contribute to advancing the mission of both the department and the School of Dental Medicine.

Faculty responsibilities for the Department involve:
Research that includes a sustained independent extramural portfolio
Undergraduate and graduate education/mentorship
Service activities

UB, a Carnegie R1 research university, has a strong record of research funding, totaling $540 million in annual research spending in FY24. The SDM has consistently ranked among the top tier dental schools in NIH/NIDCR funding. The SDM offers an outstanding work environment and enjoys a strong tradition of collaborative research with several schools and colleges at UB and the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute.

We anticipate this position will be posted in next few weeks. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis beginning in the early fall, until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to Jill M. Kramer, DDS, PhD, Search Committee Chair, at jkramer@buffalo.edu.

Outstanding Benefits Package
Working at UB comes with benefits that exceed salary alone. There are personal rewards including comprehensive health and retirement plan options. We also focus on creating and sustaining a healthy mix of work, personal and academic pursuit - all in an effort to support your work-life effectiveness.
