PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide leadership for orthodontic clinical program with responsibility for clinical care, research, education and administration. Responsible for involvement as a craniofacial team member and for providing comprehensive care for children and adolescents with craniofacial anomalies. Supports the organization’s commitment to be the leader in improving child health by developing and leading programs and initiatives that will promote disciplined research and discourse related to the broad spectrum of issues and implications in medical care, education and research. Lead and create pediatric residency curriculum including, but not limited to; orthodontics, growth & development, and craniofacial anatomy in coordination with Pediatric Dentistry Residency Director.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of; clinical orthodontics including craniofacial orthodontics, community organizations, and relevant federal and state laws and regulations. Ability to plan, organize, administer, implement, and evaluate the interdisciplinary programs (education, service, research/demonstration, etc.) within the dentistry and orthodontics area of Cincinnati Children’s. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people at all levels of the medical center, as well as individuals nationally and internationally. Have the ability to teach and prepare educational materials at a university level, conduct research, and publish in refereed journals.
D.M.D./ D.D.S. degree from an accredited school of dentistry with the ability to obtain an active State of Ohio Dental Board license, and specialty certificate in orthodontics.
Board Eligibility from the American Board of Orthodontics, with anticipated attainment of Board Certification within 5 years of hire or equivalent time period as designated by CCHMC Medical Staff and/or the American Board of Orthodontics.
Experience in area of specialization include working in an interdisciplinary setting, medical clinic facilities involving a culturally diverse population, university teaching, research, and publications.
Subspecialty training/experience in craniofacial orthodontics
Strong Consideration will be given based on the following;
Prior experience in a complex academic medical setting strongly preferred
Prior experience in a leadership capacity
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Mission: Responsible for the development, communication, and implementation of strategic, operational, and programmatic plans in orthodontics, which are consistent with the mission, vision and values of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Effectively interacts with other faculty, staff, and Division leadership, to develop programs that align with and ensure that the organization achieves its strategic mission. Assist with recruitment efforts to ensure that future faculty and staff will support and grow the programs and initiatives. Position effort is 80% clinical and 20% academic/ didactic.
Clinical Care: Assure safety and quality in all patient care. Is instrumental in incorporating a fully integrated, collaborative approach to advancing the delivery of health care to a patient population. Partner with Division of Dentistry leadership and Clinical Director in achieving clinical quality goals. Promotes team interactions with dentistry faculty/staff and Patient Services staff. Monitors and ensures safe and effective clinical practice of staff. Monitors patient outcomes and continually seeks improvements. Supports initiatives to develop the necessary programs or affiliations to offer family centered, community based, coordinated, comprehensive, and culturally competent care. Participate in the interdisciplinary evaluation of patients in the craniofacial anomalies team, and serve as a consultant within Division of Dentistry, medical center, and the community.
Scholarly Activity/Research: Oversees research activities in orthodontics. Develops, leads and encourages innovative clinical and research programs. Plans, develops, designs, and conducts research and/or projects, both individually and in collaboration with staff or faculty. Prepares and submits publications in refereed journals based on research/demonstration activities. Promotes research/demonstration activities and publications of staff and trainees.
Education and Training: Supervises the patient care of pediatric dental residents. Monitor care provided by medical students, residents and fellows to assure care provided is safe. Supervise and teach medical students, residents and fellows. Serve as consultant to other faculty and community physicians. Prepare, organize and provide lectures for residents. Prepare and regularly teach chairside in the Division. Participate in the development of educational programs and develop teaching materials. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Participate in and potentially lead clinical rounds, medical lectures, grand rounds, and other conferences.
Service and/or Administration: Effectively supervises and leads all assigned faculty and staff. Manages the selection, development, motivation, appraisal and discipline of personnel. Ensures that job requirements and goals for each position are clear to employees. Maintain a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates staff. Assesses, develops, implements and maintains appropriate departmental policies, procedures, job descriptions and philosophy as consistent with Cincinnati Children’s policies and values. Actively participates in all Division activities. Serve on CCHMC committees and working groups. Promote the implementation of long- and short-term goals and objectives and ensures that they are appropriate to the Division. Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers. May participate as a faculty member of UC including attendance at faculty meetings. Understands, adheres to, and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the division/department.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with all medical center policies and applicable State and Federal regulations. Oversees clinical and research quality and compliance initiatives. Partners effectively with internal departments and external agencies. Ensures compliance with all Medical Staff Guidelines.
