The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine invites qualified internal applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences.

The Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences is multidisciplinary with the fields of oral radiology, oral pathology, oral medicine, biomaterials, temporomandibular joint disorders and orofacial pain represented. The faculty, currently 19 members have didactic, and clinical teaching responsibilities in the predoctoral dental education program, as well as in CODA accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Orofacial Pain Advanced Education Programs.

There is a Master of Sciences in Biomaterials program with faculty participating as research mentors in the MS Oral Sciences program. Faculty of the department are engaged in externally funded research.
As an administrative leader of the department, the Chair reports to the
Dean and has primary responsibilities to:
* Plan and manage fiscal resources.
* Develop short- and long-term strategic plans.
* Develop and mentor faculty, provide leadership in education.
* Clinical training and patient care, scholarship and research.
* Promote effective communication.
* Support interdisciplinary collaboration for faculty and students. Faculty practice opportunities are available.
Specific position responsibilities include:
* Oversight for all teaching.
* Research and administrative activities of the department.
* Mentoring and development of faculty for promotion and tenure.
* Enhancement of the research portfolio of the department.
* Support of the advanced education programs and their alumni. Mentoring students, residents and fellows; and representing the department at internal and external meetings.
