The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Research Associate to work collaboratively with the Division of Biosciences. This is a grant-funded, term position for a maximum 4-year duration.

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States, and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented individual who is enthusiastic about joining a team-based laboratory studying the molecular biology of dental enamel development. The Research Associate-2 will perform laboratory experiments and activities including: Dissection, histology, molecular biology, cryosection, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, RNA and DNA isolation, traditional PCR, quantitative PCR, mouse handling and procedures, mouse colony maintenance, agarose gel electrophoresis and genotyping, cell culture, and computer-based data analysis.  The Research Associate-2 will support and contribute to multiple projects in the laboratory setting, with opportunities to work with other lab members.  The Research Associate-2 will also present collected data at weekly group lab meetings and in one-on-one meetings with the lab director and contribute figures and text to scientific posters and publications. Data contributions to a project will allow the Research Associate-2 authorship on publications pertaining to that project.

The work schedule is flexible in terms of the daily beginning and ending time. It is expected that at least 40 hours per week will be accomplished.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

The body must be able to reach, bend, stoop and reach in order to perform most lab procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: Murine bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); equipment; exposure to animals; use of sharp instruments; and latex.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; Must be familiar with PCR, Immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry plus basic molecular biology techniques and 3 three years laboratory experience.

Desired Qualifications: Experience with mouse husbandry is a plus.
