Registered dental hygienists (RDH) assist the dentist, make oral health assessments and periodontal measurements, thoroughly clean teeth, provide periodontal treatment as needed and as dictated by study protocol and/or dentist, screen for decay and disease, and help educate about how to maintain oral health. Assist in regulatory compliance and compliance with research protocols. Must be able to be trained and calibrated to a high degree of accuracy in periodontal measurements and maintain acceptable calibration levels for the duration of employment. Assist with recruitment and retention of study participants and other study activities as needed and as time permits. Adhere to proper infection control protocols and procedures. Must be able to work collaboratively with the rest of the study team. More specifically, the following duties are included: Collect dental history and complete dental charts, Examine head, neck and mouth for disease, Screen for signs of tooth decay, oral cancer and periodontal disease, Make accurate and consistent periodontal assessments, Take and process X-rays, as needed, Clean, scale and root plane teeth, as needed, Teach patients good oral hygiene practices, Apply preventive treatments to teeth, as needed, and Dental office management duties, as needed.
Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene school with a certificate, or associate or baccalaureate degree; Maintain licensure to practice Dental Hygiene in the State of New York
Experience with human participant research studies and periodontal studies in particular.
Salary Range $20,086 – $22,500
Half time, Monday AM, Wednesday and Thursday 8 AM – 4 PM.
