The Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Functional Polymeric Biomaterials in the Department of Applied Oral Sciences. The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with an anticipated start date of January 2021. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research and supervise graduate students, and to develop, lead and grow a strong, externally funded research program.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated qualifications and experience in the development and utilization of novel polymeric processing approaches and chemistries in support of research areas that may include (but are not limited to): biodegradable and stimuli-responsive biomaterials; localized therapeutic delivery; tissue engineering and scaffold/host interactions; mesoscale engineering and self-assembly materials.
A PhD in a discipline broadly related to the candidate’s scholarship in functional polymeric biomaterials is required.

In addition, this individual will have demonstrated achievements in, or potential for, the following:
- the ability to work with cross-functional teams to support innovation and translational/commercialization activities in the life sciences (e.g. medical devices, pharmacology, or diagnostic tools).
- the ability to contribute to research networks/collaborations at the institutional, national and international levels
- the ability to provide an outstanding training environment
- capacity building in a research focus area that falls under Dalhousie University’s signature research cluster: ‘Healthy People, Healthy Communities, Healthy Populations’ (see… for a list of focus areas)

Tier 2 Canada Research Chair Eligibility
The Canada Research Chair (CRC) program was established by the Canadian Federal Government with the purpose of attracting outstanding researchers to the Canadian university system. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e. candidates must have been active researchers in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, including maternity leave, extended sick leave, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process.
