About the opportunity
The appointee will conduct research and support teaching, as directed by the head of discipline (Prof H Zoellner). Teaching will be in aspects of basic and systemic pathology. The appointee will receive guidance and mentorship from Prof Zoellner in both research and teaching, but is expected to demonstrate capacity for work independent of close supervision. Applicants will be expected to have demonstrated productive laboratory experience in cell and molecular biology. Further experience in cell and tissue imaging and protein chemistry would be an advantage. The position is suitable for a recent PhD graduate with or without dental background, who wishes to develop an academic career, and seeks further post-doctoral research training together with opportunity for teaching experience.

  • PhD training in laboratory research
  • Proven productivity in laboratory research
  • English language proficiency (English language skills at IELTS academic level 7 or equivalent).
  • excellent written and communication skills

A demonstrated research capacity would be highly regarded, as well as teaching experience gained in a University or similar environment, preferably with adult learners.

The Cellular and Molecular Pathology Research Unit (CMPRU) is established within the Discipline of Oral Pathology, and conducts research into the underlying biology of: the inflammatory response, cancer, wound healing, the vasculature, and tissue remodelling. The discipline has special responsibility for teaching in Oral Pathology, but also teaches aspects of basic and systemic pathology for dental students. The CMPRU is committed to scientific discovery, and also to developing the talents and careers of it’s staff and students.

The CMPRU is located in the Westmead Centre for Oral Health, integrated with Westmead Hospital and the broader Westmead clinical and research campus.
