Assistant or Associate Dean for Admissions
Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Dentistry is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position as Assistant or Associate Dean for Admissions.
The position will provide leadership for the DDS admissions processes and office of admission including staff recruitment and supervision. The incumbent will lead the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) admissions process including the International Dentist Program (IDP) and serve as chair of the School of Dentistry Admission Committee. The dean will collaborate with the director of the PhD program to promote DDS/PhD enrollment. Essential to the dean for admissions responsibilities is to promote a student body from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including from rural and underserved areas of the commonwealth, international origins, and students interested in academic careers. The admissions dean will lead the school’s pipeline programs and student recruitment strategies and represent school at the university and ADEA. Teaching, research, and/or clinical duties are optional as appropriate based on the education, training and licensure of the candidate. Academic rank, tenure status, and administrative title of assistant or associate dean are commensurate with qualifications and previous experience.
Candidates must possess a graduate or professional degree at the master’s level or above. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in higher education teaching or administration, and knowledge of admissions policies and procedures. The demonstrated ability to adapt to change and embrace modern technology is also required. Candidates must also have demonstrated the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning by demonstrating the ability, or acquire and develop such ability, to incorporate adult learning theory, evidence-based oral health care, innovation in student learning, and critical thinking.
The candidate must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment, or a commitment to do so as faculty member at VCU.
A D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree is preferred. Clinical practice experience and licensure to practice dentistry in Virginia will also be preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include experience supervising and leading others; service on professional program admissions committee; national level service in appropriate professional organizations; and prior administrative or program leadership experience.
