    The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry invites applications for Chair, Department of Periodontology. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding leader to guide an internationally recognized department that includes strong dental and advanced dental education programs, community service, faculty practice and research components. The three-year accredited advanced education periodontology master’s degree program has its home in the department. This is a full-time clinical or tenure/tenure track position at the associate or full professor level. The Department Chair reports to the Dean. The position is an “at will” administrative assignment in addition to a primary faculty appointment. The Department Chair is responsible for leading a team to provide excellence in our school’s education, patient care, community service and research missions. The successful candidate will be eligible to participate in the intramural periodontology Dental Faculty Practice.

    Educational Requirements: Qualifications for this position include having a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), or equivalent dental degree, and Board certification or equivalent in periodontology is preferred. In addition, the candidate is expected to have teaching and mentoring experience, at least 5 years of academic experience or equivalent, eligibility for dental licensure in NC or a NC Instructor’s License, and evidence of scholarship to qualify for an appointment at the associate or full professor level.

    Qualifications and Experience: The successful candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills; possess skills in teaching and mentoring students and faculty; a strong history of clinical excellence; a strong history and continued interest in research and productive scholarship; and demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Leadership, and/or administrative and supervisory experience, and experience with CODA accreditation are preferred. Rank and salary will be commensurate with training, experience and academic accomplishments.
