Assistant/Associate Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist

Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Dentistry is seeking a full-time faculty member in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in the Department Oral Diagnostic Sciences. Rank and tenure eligibility commensurate with the candidate qualifications and experience.
The faculty member will have primary responsibility for clinical duties and will be expected to maintain and grow a practice in oral and maxillofacial radiology to include promotion of VCU School of Dentistry oral radiology services to local and regional private practice providers. The faculty member will provide course development, teaching, and management of oral and general radiology curricula for dental, dental hygiene, and advanced dental education students in collaboration with School of Dentistry and School of Medicine faculty members. A primary focus will be on curricula offerings across the entire course of study to include lecture and laboratory and support integrated biomedical and clinical sciences learning.
Faculty members are expected to teach in an integrated curriculum system that includes baccalaureate, graduate and professional education. Teaching across traditional department lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning that is informed by interdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creative expression. Scholarly activity resulting in peer reviewed publications is expected with opportunities for collaboration with all Departments in the School of Dentistry and also with the Philips Institute for Oral Health Research (www.philipsinstitute.vcu.edu). Experience in a practice in oral and maxillofacial radiology to include interaction with private practice oral health care providers.
For appointment at the rank of assistant professor, the candidate will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department. For appointment at the rank of associate professor, the candidate will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications.
Applicants must have a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree and eligible for licensure in Virginia, ADA CODA residency program with advanced education in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Prior experience teaching didactic, clinical radiology and oral diagnosis, in a dental school setting is preferred. Private practice experience as a general dentist and or dental radiologist is preferred. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and embrace modern technology, to work in and foster a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU; to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning and to incorporate adult learning theory, evidence-based oral health care, innovation in student learning, and critical thinking. Master’s degree and research experience preferred.
